Nifty File Lists is a macOS utility for turning files and folders into customizable inventories, manifests and metadata reports. Add one or more source folders, choose the columns you need, and inspect both the interactive table and the final export while metadata extraction continues.
Features:
- PDF Manifests - Export paginated PDF manifests with a title, repeating column headers, page numbers and a provenance stamp (source folder, file count, total size, generation date). Tables are never truncated: columns narrow, scale or split instead of being silently dropped.
- Spreadsheet Export - Save CSV or TSV files that open cleanly in Microsoft Excel and Apple Numbers, or copy the table straight into Excel via the clipboard. Empty columns are left out of exports automatically.
- Print-Ready Text - Produce aligned plain-text listings for printing and archiving, with space-separated or custom delimiters.
- HTML, Markdown & JSON - Publish dark-mode-aware HTML 5 pages, write Markdown tables for documentation, or export JSON for data workflows and developer hand-offs.
- Comprehensive Metadata - Columns include file names, extensions, full and relative paths, parent folders, sizes and size on disk, creation, modification and last-opened dates, Finder tags and comments, Spotlight attributes, document properties and MD5 or SHA checksums.
- Photo, Music & Video - Extract EXIF, IPTC and GPS photo metadata, image dimensions and color information, plus ID3 and other audio and video fields, and filter a scan to just images, video, audio, documents or everything else.
- Fully Interactive Preview - Add, remove, reorder and format columns, sort by name, path, size and multiple date fields, and save favourite column combinations as recallable column sets, all while the multithreaded engine is still processing lengthy lists.
- Fast & Private - Written entirely in Swift, Nifty File Lists stays responsive on collections of hundreds of thousands of files. Everything is processed locally with no cloud component or telemetry. Runs natively on Intel and Apple silicon Macs. English, French and German are supported.
